La Primavera

La Primavera was painted by Sandro Boticelli and is now located in Florence, Italy. The size of the painting is 315 cm x 205 cm. My first impression of Primavera was that the painting looks very greek and symbolic to some type of important figures or events. The artist uses the values to emphasize dark personalities in the painting, Zephyrus who is symbolic to the cold winter changing into the early part of Spring, Chloris. Also the use of perspective; how some figures are more forward and some are standing in the background. The painting is balanced with the eight figures, and the ninth (Cupid) balance the center where Venus is represented. Some of the figures are wearing loose, thin clothing, where the others are wearing thick, heavy clothing. The main focus of the painting is Venus, standing in the middle of the painting. She looks like The Virgin Mary by the way she is standing. The theme is the transformation of the seasons, "to spring." The painting is about the coming of spring and the artists uses there symbolic figures to symbolize different parts of spring. An example is Flora, who is the mother of the flowers. Chloris turns into Flora. I believe Sandro Boticelli's view of the world is spiritual because of her use of symbolic figures to explain the transformation of spring. My thoughts and feelings have changed after learning about the background and symbolic history. The most important part of the painting that I observed was the symbols. To make my art more meaningful, I need to think deep and come up with objects or people to symbolize a type of feeling or emotion.

First Impression: I instantly assumed that it was from the Renaissance Era. I like the piece, although the angelic faces and perfect bodies become redundant or cliche over time.

Analyze: Chiaroscuro is utilized as in most Renaissance Art, the lighting is revealing what is going on in the piece. From research, I understand that this piece is extremely controversial, because some consider the piece to be an allegory of the lush growth in Spring or it may be a standard mythological piece. The materials in the dresses and togas are more formal materials, because that probably matched the Medici home decor, but it brings out the formal of Spring like dressing up on Easter Sunday. It is the offical announcement of Spring's awaited arrival. The lighting which is focused toward the center-left at the Three Graces, provided at relieve from the cold,dark shades near Zephryus and his gusts of winter.

Interpret: The piece is an allegory of the lush transformation during Spring. I'm not an expert on Florentine Politicans, but perhaps there was some kind of enlightenment in the Florentine society, because this was created by a humanist. The humanists were men of science and they were historically floating around the Florentine aristocracy during this time period. I believe, Botticelli was trying to express a point of significant advancement in Renaissance Society during his time. I noticed that they lost more clothes as the painting approaches the left, so that could determine the innovativeness and openless associated with Spring.

Evaluate: No, not really. I'm not in awe of Renaissance Art, because many of the pieces are the same in theme and facial detail. "I instantly assumed that it was from the Renaissance Era. I like the piece, although the angelic faces and perfect bodies become redundant or cliche over time."

Botticelli created Primavera in 1482 and located in florence, italy.Venus is the center of intrest because all the other people are around her interacting with spring.Symmetrically balanced because Venus and cupid is splitted down the middle there for its symmetrical..It has to deal with greek mothogly and spring.Mercury is the protector of the graden, the three graces are dancing and welcoming spring , Venus is observing , Zephyrus is taking chloris to marry and she transforms into flora, Cupid is a hit man of love.The story of spring in greek mothogly.He was inspried by greek mothogly.I just saw a whole bunch of people doing things now i know that it is dealing with greek mythology and there view on spring.I learned symmetrical balanced in this painting.

My first immpression was this is just another greek painting, but after analyzing it I like it better. I would like to know more about the history of these gods, mostly zephyrus and flora.

Its a oil painting, with a lot of details.

The theme is greek gods celebrating spring. I think the artist created the work to educate people about the greek gods, and as a tribute to them.

I think its weird but cool how the womens bodies are shaped. Their tummies are weird kind of like gourds.

The people in the picture look like gods that are working together. I knew the little baby figure at the top was cupid. This is how i knew these were ancient gods. i would think the woman in the center would be the main goddess because she is in the middle. The blooms on the trees and flowers on floras dress represent the season spring. the way they dressed showed that these people were gods with the head bands and dresses. my attention focuses on the way the people are in their own groups and how each group goes together. The power the gods have to bring spring is the theme of this work. this is supposed to represent the season change for example chloris transformes into flora. No my feelings have not changed because the gods were indeed gods and the kid in the corner is still wierd. I have learned how zephyrus made chloris transform into flora.

Primavera by Sandro Boticelli and it's located in Florence, Italy. My first impression of this piece was that I thought that it was very detailed. The darkness of the background makes the people and their appreance stand out. The movement of this piece makes you notice the line of people left to right and you focus on the whole piece, not a specific part. The theme of this piece represents the sudden change of the season from winter to spring. My feelings about this piece is that it involves a lot of thinking as looking at each person and determining the specific meaning of each one and that the real name of this piece is CREAM OF VERA.

First Impression: Nice painting, but... Who are all these people? Why can't Mrs. Telleri just tell us? What's all this about?

Analyze: Botticelli is just doing his thing and making his painting all hardcore and whatnot. With his mighty paintbrush weilded high in his right hand, he strokes out the complex perfection that is Primavera. He utilizes only the best of oil paints in order to create this masterpiece that, as wikipedia says, "is one of the most controversial pieces," ever. With the sharp contrasting between the dark colors of the forest surrounding the bright, vibrant figures within the forest, the eyes are automatically drawn to the super crazy awesomeness and detail he placed within each god and goddess portrayed here.

Interpret: The theme of this work must be the transition into spring. The gods are all about spreading out the clouds, getting married, transforming into other gods, and preparing arrows of love to make spring. Botticelli must have been really dedicated and surely did his research on mythology. With this artwork, he creates a mythical interpretation of the magical wonder of springtime.

Evaluate: I somewhat respect the picture more now that I know what is going on. The detail of each character within this piece, such as Chlorus over there choking on flowers, is a very nice touch and would not be the same without it. Each person is deeply involved in an activity and seems much more realistic than posed expressions. I doubt I'll be able to use anything like this in my artwork because I just cannot match the artistic genius that is Botticelli.

This piece is called Primavera, by Sandro Botticella. It is located Uffizi, Florence. My first impression of this work was that it was a scene of women and gods. After learning the history behind this picture i realized it was all about spring. The movement of this peice is very fluid almost as if in motion. And the color choices are very angelic and the background is very dark but with blue openings from the sky. The main focus of the work is Venus shes the focus and main component of the piece. The theme of the work is the coming of spring. I think the artist is trying to tell the story of how spring comes every year and on a side note the story or Zepher and Flora. I think the artist created this artwork for the sake of telling the story. Ithink the artist views of the world is the gods control everything. My thoughts havent changed from my first impresstion of this piece. I learned about greek mythology.
