    Describe:
    1. The shape of this picture is in the form of a man, and he appears to be made of circles.
    2. The dark colors he usues gives it a gloomy tone.
    3. The texture is stimulated and makes it seem as though the man has many crevaces.
4.The space around the man is filled in as black, giving a gloomy setting
    5. The value around the mans eyes emphasize the color and intensity of his face.
    Analyze:
    1. I see emphasis when I see around the man's eyes because he made his cheeks lighter.
    2. The movement of this piece brings me looking at his eyes.
    3. The unity of the dark colors give it the gloomy scene.
    4. He doesn't use much variety with the colors, everything is basically dark.
    5. This piece is balanced because the gloomy setting.
My attention focuses on Lucas's eyes, because they seem stressed and drained.
I like the choice of materials because it gave a neat look to Lucas.
    Interpet:
I think that this picture is a portrait of Lucas. So that is why it is called, "Lucas."
    The theyme is depressing.
Yes, the colors show the sadness, and wornoutness of Lucas's life.
I think the artist tried to show the tiredness of Lucas through the bags under his eyes, so he probably was a hard worker.
    Evaluate:
No, my first impression was i liked the materials used & the way his hair is strawn out.
I like most the hair because it looks cool, and nicely done, i like least the dull colors.
I overall like the Oil and Pencil on Canvas of Lucas.

One of the elements of design used in this painting is color. Up close the color in this painting is very different than if you were looking at it from a distance. At a closer view you can see that the painting is made of many different circles and dots. The dots that are layered on top of each other on each grid square are both contrasting and monochromatic. This painting has both form and shape. Up close the painting has many shapes of circle and oval dots that make up the form of a man’s face from a distance. The space in the painting is mainly taken up by the face but also has a black background that is still made up of the smaller circles and dots. Up close you can’t see the value in the background but from a distance you can see that there is a slight change from dark black to a slightly lighter grey when it gets closer to the head.
The pattern used in the painting is small dots and circles up close. The pattern is not symmetrical but the repetition of the dots is used over the whole entire painting. The focal point of the painting is the insanely cool mustache. The balance of the painting is pretty much symmetrical because the face is balanced on either side of the painting. The movement of the piece is from the mustache to the beard then all around the head to the eyes. The proportion of the piece is all realistic but the size of the painting compared to real life is much larger.
I don’t think there is really a clear meaning behind the work I think that it is just a portrait of a man made up of many different circles and dots. The subject of the work is just a man. A color in the work that shows emotion is the background that is black that shows sadness. I think that the artist created the piece just to experiment with different ways to make pictures using circles instead painting the same way all the time.
My thoughts and feelings have not changed since my first impression. I still like the painting and think its really cool how he used only circles to create the piece. The thing I like most about the painting is that the man has a mustache and that the painting is made of only circles. The think that I don’t like about the painting is that the man looks very sad and depressed in the picture. My overall impression of the work is that I like it but it wouldn’t be considered one of my favorite pieces of art work.

My attention focuses on the man eyes, because his eyes looks sad.
    Interpretation:
I think that this picture is a portrait of Lucas. So that is why it is called, "Lucas."
    The theme is saddening.
Yes, the colors show the sadness.
I think the artist tried to show the sadness in the man eyes through the use of lines under his eyes, so he probably was a hardworking guy.
    Evaluate:
No, my first impression was how it looks normal from afar but as you get closer the dots become more defined.

This painting is painted from a lot of small circles. Close painted the circles with various colors. Up close, the painting just looks like a bunch of circles but when you look at it as a whole, it all comes together to form a man’s face. The use of circles to paint the whole picture gives it a rough-type texture. It’s not smooth and clear. From what I can see, the artist used a couple of colors for each circle. Mainly there is one circle outlined in a different color that gives it a more realistic look from far away. When these two colors are used together, they create an overall balance for that specific section of the piece. The colors in the circles work together with the circles nearby to for the object that the artist is trying to make. When I first looked at the painting, my eyes immediately went to the center of the man’s face, towards his eyes and the area around them. This area is brighter compared to the rest of his face. He has a lot of dark hair/facial hair and this darkens the area around his face. The background is black and this contrasts with his face and allows the detail to show more. I think that this piece was titled Lucas because maybe this is the guys name and this man has certain significance to Chuck Close. From the look of the man’s face and the overall color and impression that it gives me, it gives a neutral or slight serious feeling to it. This type of art is something that I do not think I would have the patience to do so I really like the detail and overall appearance of the piece.
