Primavera - Sandro Botticelli

okayyy so, on the far left, we have.... Mercury...beside him, we have the Three Graces, and beside them, we have Venus, Goddess of Love and Beauty. Above Venus is Cupid, beside Venus we have a transformation of Flora, she goes from Chloris being raped by Zephyr on the far right, to Flora, Zephyr's wife, Goddess of Flowers.

Sandro Botticelli- Primavera
first impression makes me think of a pieced together collage of Greek Mythology in a forest-like background...
foreshortening has a HUGE affect on this painting...
my atttention rather focuses on the transformation of Chloris to Flora, with the flowers coming out of her mouth...
Italian Renaissance is the theme....
The Greek Gods and Goddesses
Love and marriage, when done in the right order it brings sensuality and fertility.
I believe Botticelli's view of the world was that it was run by the Greek Gods and Goddesses...

Having an interest in the Greek Mythology period, my impression has slightly changed.. now that I realize the piece is about love and marriage...
